Yes, residents are encouraged to participate in frequent activities, hobbies, and outings. The community is active and engaged, with programmes tailored to individual interests to promote social interaction and enjoyment.

Day Care is a supportive, social day-only programme, providing an ideal option for people who want the reassurance of professional support in a safe environment, without moving away from home.

What to expect when you enjoy the day with Radius Care
At Radius Care we believe in providing the right support at the right time, so our broad mix of services covers everything from respite and rest-home to hospital-level care. Day Care fits within this continuum, offering structured daytime support, companionship and relief for family carers, at one of our safe, secure and inviting care homes. In addition to Day Care, we can provide longer stays of overnight or extended periods of support with Respite Care.
Our day programme includes:
- A delicious midday meal plus refreshments so there’s no need to worry about catering.
- Guests can relax in a friendly, homelike atmosphere, spending time with peers and making new friends.
- Join in activities designed to encourage social connection and fun, with time to chat, laugh and unwind.
- Outings, entertainment, and visits from special guests add variety to the week, and there’s always space for shared experiences.
Care and comfort
As with all our services, care is delivered by experienced team members. We carefully match staff to guests and provide support that adapts to their needs. Our trained team creates a safe, comfortable environment and is always on hand to assist, from personal support to organising activities. The relaxed surroundings allow participants to enjoy their day while their usual carers enjoy some time off.
Many of our Day Care and Respite Care guests find huge benefits in the extra social engagement and support – helping people to re-engage in loved activities that can be difficult alone at home or even to just enjoy a change of scenery and some extra social interaction. How does it work?
Day care spaces are available throughout the week at a range of Radius Care locations. You can choose the days that work best for you or your loved one. If you’re unsure which centre is most convenient, our team can help you find the right fit.
Contact us to discuss availability and costs or call your nearest care home directly. You may also be eligible for funding assistance, and we can guide you through the application process.
“I worried Paul would be sad or want to go home, but after his first visit, he genuinely loved it. In fact, it has been good for him. He hadn’t been able to read a book for more than four years, but last time he was at Glaisdale he read a whole John Grisham. Ash, the centre manager, says he’s quite the social butterfly when he comes to stay. As a carer for a person with dementia it is absolutely life-changing for me to have time out.”

FAQs
No, not necessarily. There are lots of varieties of aged care available to each individual, depending on their needs level.
It’s possible to benefit from short-term care like day care, or respite care, perfect for those who may only want support for a few hours or days. There are also opportunities for support in your own home, suited around your needs, schedule and lifestyle.
If you’re considering care for yourself or a loved one, give us a call to discuss your needs or arrange a visit. Alternatively, you can fill out an online enquiry form on our website, and we’ll get back to you promptly.
Often you will have a gut feeling that you or a loved one would benefit from care or support. However, there are some key signs you can also look out for; like if the individual is struggling to keep on top of household tasks, you notice changes in their mobility or behaviour, or maybe they’re experiencing feelings of loneliness. These are all signs they may benefit from additional care.
Safety is a top priority at Radius Care. Our care homes are designed with features like 24/7 emergency call systems, regular health monitoring, and secure premises to ensure residents’ safety and peace of mind.
We provide a smooth transition process by collaborating with residents, families, and health professionals. Our team will guide you through the logistics, whether your loved one is stepping down to rest home care or transitioning to hospital care from a lower level of support.
Rest homes must meet the Health and Disability Services Standards NZS 8134:2008, and be certified to operate by the Ministry of Health. They must also meet the requirements set in their contract with the District Health Board. The Ministry of Health arranges both regular and ‘spot’ audits of all rest homes to ensure they are continuing to meet both the Standards and the District Health Board contract requirements. The District Health Board and the Ministry of Health will carry out additional inspections if needed. Summaries of audits for all residential homes are available for the public to read on the Ministry of Health’s website page. Radius Care has an outstanding record with our audits.
It’s all dependent on your NASC (Needs Assessment Service Coordination) assessment. In some instances, respite care may be partially funded by the government through your local health authority.
Equally if your needs assessment deems an alternate level of care, you may be able to apply for the Residential Care Subsidy, or other government funding.
Respite care is short-term quality support. These services offer comfort and support for anyone who’s unwell, recovering from illness, or might just need extra support for a bit.
Respite ranges from a couple of days to a few weeks. Many people find it offers a refreshing change of scene and a break from the day-to-day in a friendly, safe and nurturing environment.
First Talk to your GP, after an initial consultation they will make a referral to community support services.
The referral then goes to a care manager who prioritises the case.
They then book an appointment and assess the client for respite days, home support, and daycare.
We’re here to answer your questions and support you every step of the way. To get in touch, please fill out a contact form, call us on our freephone number (0800 737 2273), or visit us at one of our Radius Care locations.
